Smoking education campaign
Improving no smoking signage at West Peak
Background
Smoking or vaping any product, including cannabis and non-nicotine products, is prohibited by law in indoor common (shared) spaces in Ontario. The fine for the first offense is $1000. The fine for each subsequent offense is $5000.
Indoor common areas include:
- elevators
- stairwells, including those propped open to the outdoors
- hallways
- lobbies
- exercise areas
- party or entertainment rooms

Problem
Unfortunately, some residents have been caught smoking in common areas. Their actions have subjected others to second-hand smoke and unreasonable risk of fire.
Building Management posted Ontario’s signage for businesses, but these lacked important information and were repeatedly defaced, damaging wall surfaces.
Action
To celebrate 4/20, breakright introduced more informative, laminated signs. We ask that residents refrain from damaging these signs as we work to keep our buildings and community healthy.
Updates
2025-04-21: Sadly, it’s only Building A with an adversion to signage. I hope we can do better in the future.
